The Rules Engine interface can be used to configure and manage rules for different changes that can occur in the application. To access this interface, the "Rules Engine" option can be selected under the Administration icon ().
There are two tables on this interface: Rules Table and Criteria Table. The Rules table (top) provides the user with a list of all rules and change types for the selected rule. Selecting a row in the Rules table will fill the Criteria table. The Criteria table (bottom) provides the user with a space for adding criteria for the selected rule. The table below shows the fields in both tables.
| Field | Table | Description |
| Rule No. | Rules Table | The designated number for the rule that indicates the order in which it will appear on the "Rules Engine" list. |
| Rule | Rules Table | The name of the rule. |
| Change Type | Rules Table | The type of change associated to the rule, either Major Amendment, Minor Amendment, Administrative Adjustment, or No Action Adjustment. |
| =/- | Criteria Table | This field will have either a "+" or a "X". A "X" will be displayed to delete the selected criteria. A "+" will be displayed to add new criteria to the selected rule. |
| Join | Criteria Table | An and/or designation for how the criteria rows are grouped together. |
| Parentheses () | Criteria Table | These are used to group criteria together by enclosing them in these symbols. |
| Left Condition | Criteria Table | The user can choose Original Total Project Cost, New Total Project Cost, Original Constrained Project Cost, New Constrained Project Cost, Total Change, Constrained Change, Original Start Year, or New Start Year. |
| Logical | Criteria Table | Choose a logic symbol: =, >, >=, <, <=, or <>. This will determine the relationship between the left and right conditions. |
| %, $, or Year | Criteria Table | The user can choose to specify the rule by a dollar amount, percent, or year. |
| Right Condition | Criteria Table | This is a numeric value related to the %, $, or Year selection. |
Edit Rule
The user can edit information for a rule in both tables on the interface. When a row is selected on the Rules table, the Rule No., Rule, and Change Type fields can be altered by entering new values through the available picklist and textboxes. The Criteria table can also be edited once a row is selected in the Rules table. It can be edited in these ways:
- All picklists and textboxes in the criteria rows are editable. The user can enter new values here if desired.
- The user can delete a criteria row by selecting the red "X" to the left of the desired row.
- The user can add a new criteria row by selecting the green "+" in the last, empty row of the table.
If any edits are made, the "Save Changes" button must be selected to save the new values. If the user wishes to revert the changes to their last saved state, the "Discard Changes" button can be selected instead. A rule's definition will be preserved even when it is updated in the system; this means that if a rule is attached to a change, it will still be attached to the change in the same state even if that rule was updated in the system. The updates to the rule will only apply to any change made after the update.
Add Rule
To add a new rule, the "Add New" link can be selected below the Rules table. Then, a blank row will be added to the Rules table for the user to fill in the Rule Number, Rule (name), and Change Type. The "Save Changes" button can be selected to save the new rule. Once saved, the user can add criteria rows to the Criteria table by selecting the new rule and navigating to that table. The fields outlined in the table in this article can be used to enter criteria rows.
Delete Rule
To delete a rule, the user can simply select the checkbox beside the desired row(s). Then, the "Delete Selected" link can be clicked, removing the row(s) from the user's view. To fully save this deletion, the "Save Changes" button must be selected.
View Rules
To view the rules in the same format in which they will appear across STIP Manager, the "View Rules" link can be selected below the Criteria Table. The lower righthand corner of this interface can be dragged to expand this pop-up further if desired.
